Organizers in the highland town of Boquete, Chiriquí have finalized preparations for the International Flower and Coffee Fair. The event, a cornerstone of Panama’s cultural and agricultural calendar, opens to the public on January 7 and runs through January 18. Fair executives confirmed all attractions and logistical plans are ready for an expected influx of national and international tourists.
This year’s edition promises significant enhancements, including new mechanical rides and redesigned structures within the fairgrounds. A central focus remains the elaborate exhibition of flowers and ornamental gardens, which received a substantial investment. The characteristic cool climate of Boquete, Chiriquí is considered ideal for the floral displays and outdoor activities.
“We made a significant investment in the gardens,” said Thomas Ruíz, president of the fair’s board of trustees. [Translated from Spanish] He emphasized that the Boquete Flower and Coffee Fair solidifies its status as the country’s first major fair of the year, setting a high standard for subsequent events.
The fair’s programming features a diverse stage schedule with performances tailored for children, youth, and adults. Highlights include folkloric spectacles directed by professor Tendai Batista, which are noted for their international projection. Organizers project total attendance could reach 200,000 visitors over the fair’s 12-day run.
National Fair Calendar Kicks Off in Chiriquí Province
The event in Boquete marks the official start of Panama’s national fair season. Officials from the Ministry of Agricultural Development (Panama) are preparing to support more than 30 national fairs across the country. Chiriquí Province alone will open the calendar with over 10 separate events, underscoring the region’s agricultural and cultural importance.
Logistics for the large crowd have been a primary concern. Fair directors stated they established special processes and schedules for security, traffic, and parking. These measures aim to provide adequate service for all visitors and ensure smooth operations throughout the event.
With new rides, expanded gardens, and a wide artistic lineup, the fair aims to offer a comprehensive experience. Its success is seen as a vital economic and promotional boost for local growers and the tourism sector in the highlands. The opening day is now just a final countdown away.
