Author James Kennedy brought a dynamic literary experience to students in Chautauqua County this week. The novelist visited fifth and sixth graders at Panama Central Schools and Southwestern middle school<\/a>, transforming assemblies into interactive celebrations of reading and creativity. His visit was coordinated by Bob Lingle of the local good neighbor<\/a> Bookstore in Lakewood, New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kennedy, known for his energetic style, did more than just lecture. He performed, sharing personal anecdotes and reading aloud from his work to captivate the young audiences. He connected his own life adventures directly to the stories he writes, making the craft of writing feel both accessible and thrilling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Educators Praise Unforgettable Student Engagement<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Teachers at both schools reported unprecedented levels of student engagement during Kennedy’s presentations. They observed students completely absorbed in the world of storytelling he created.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Author James Kennedy dazzled my students with his incredible storytelling and presentation style,” said Liz Gruber of Panama Central School. [Translated from Spanish] “Students instantly connected with his creative energy. His presentation far exceeded any expectations. I would love to host him again.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Mary Zdrojewski of Southwestern Middle School witnessed a similar reaction. She described a roomful of students reacting audibly to the narrative, cheering and booing for characters as if watching a live performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I have never seen our students as engaged as they were when James read excerpts from his book,” Zdrojewski said. [Translated from Spanish] “Through James Kennedy\u2019s presentation, our students watched literature come to life. James showed them not only that books are windows into fantastic adventures, but that authors are rock stars.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Connecting Schools with National Literary Talent<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The event highlighted a successful community partnership. Bob Lingle of the Lakewood, New York<\/a> bookstore leveraged his relationships with schools and authors to facilitate the visit. He expressed pride in bridging these connections for the benefit of local students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kennsey is the author of several acclaimed works, including the Young adult fantasy novel<\/a> “The Order of Odd-Fish.” His novel “Bride of the Tornado” was recognized by The Guardian (newspaper)<\/a> as one of the best fantasy novels of 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond traditional publishing, Kennedy founded the 90-Second Newbery Film Festival. This unique contest challenges young filmmakers to adapt Newbery Award-winning books into ultra-short films. He actively encouraged local students to participate by creating and submitting their own video entries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next regional screening for the festival is scheduled for April 25, 2026, in Rochester. Kennedy’s visit served as a direct call to action, inviting Chautauqua County’s young creators to tell stories not just with pens, but with cameras.
