Panama’s government has completed major infrastructure upgrades at San Lorenzo National Park<\/strong><\/a> in Colon province. Environment Minister Juan Carlos Navarro toured the site on June 3, 2026 to officially receive the improvements. The project aims to boost ecological tourism and enhance visitor experiences across protected areas.<\/p>\n

The renovations stem from President Jose Raul Mulino’s Strategic Government Plan 2024-2029. That plan focuses on conservation, sustainable tourism and operational management. The Inter-American Development Bank<\/a> financed the work through a broader conservation initiative. Total investment across multiple national parks reaches 2.5 million balboas.<\/p>\n

New Infrastructure and Renovated Trails<\/h2>\n

The Consorcio GCP-3tech handled construction at San Lorenzo. Workers demolished old buildings and built a new control post and ranger station. They also furnished both structures completely. The project included trail improvements throughout the park.<\/p>\n

Punta Brujas Trail now features a suspension bridge for beach access. Visitors can use a new rest cabin there too. At Pavon Trail, crews upgraded the observation tower with recycled plastic wood decking. They installed picnic tables, informational signs and binoculars for landscape viewing.<\/p>\n

Tortuguilla and Embarcadero trails received new docks and rest cabins. These additions give tourists better places to relax and enjoy the scenery. The Ministry of Environment Panama<\/a> oversaw all the work.<\/p>\n

Abandoned Posts Brought Back to Life<\/h2>\n

The Achiote control post sat abandoned since 2008. Now it’s fully operational again. Workers also renovated the Poligono de Pi\u00f1as control post and its ranger house. Both locations received new furniture and equipment.<\/p>\n

These upgrades strengthen park surveillance capabilities. Rangers now have better facilities for monitoring and visitor assistance. The improvements support the Colonial Transisthmian Route, which connects Portobelo and San Lorenzo parks.<\/p>\n

San Lorenzo isn’t the only park receiving attention. The project covers six protected areas nationwide. These include Altos de Campana National Park, Camino de Cruces National Park, Soberania National Park and Portobelo National Park.<\/p>\n

Navarro recently delivered the renovated Cerro de La Cruz Trail at Altos de Campana. He also inspected recovery work on Pipeline Road in Soberania National Park. The renovations continue with infrastructure remodeling at Portobelo and San Lorenzo.<\/p>\n

The government expects these upgrades to draw more eco-tourists. Better facilities should increase visitor satisfaction and length of stays. Local communities near the parks stand to benefit from increased tourism revenue.<\/p>\n
