Panama has taken a major step to strengthen air security across the region. Officials inaugurated the new Airport Security Academy at Tocumen International Airport<\/a> on Wednesday. The facility was equipped through a $2 million donation from the United States<\/a> government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The academy will operate under the Civil Aviation Authority. Training will focus on specialized personnel through advanced technology and technical instruction. The center aims to boost security standards for Panama and neighboring countries.<\/p>\n\n\n

Strategic Partnership with the United States<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

U.S. Ambassador to Panama Kevin Marino Cabrera spoke at the inauguration ceremony. He highlighted the project’s strategic importance for both nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“On behalf of President Donald Trump, it is an honor and privilege to accompany our Panamanian partner. We are here to inaugurate a new regional airport security academy, fulfilling our commitment to work together,” Cabrera said. [Translated from Spanish]<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The diplomat emphasized Panama’s growing role as a continental air connection hub. He noted the academy solidifies that position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Panama has long been the hub of the Americas. Today, with the opening of this modern center, it consolidates its leadership by transforming into the indispensable regional axis so that no one uses the skies to destabilize our region,” Cabrera added. The U.S. contribution included advanced inspection equipment and specialized technology. Modern furniture was also part of the donation. The Office of Counterterrorism at the State Department managed the support. Coordination involved the Transportation Security Administration and the International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
