She explained the legislation establishes a clear legal framework for food recovery. &#8220;Today we formally begin this public consultation which allows us to collect contributions, experiences and recommendations to strengthen the instrument and guarantee its implementation for the benefit of the country,&#8221; Vargas said. The National Directorate of Food Control and Veterinary Surveillance will serve as the sanitary authority. This agency will coordinate technical implementation of the law. It must guarantee the safety of all donated food items.<\/p>\n<p>Vargas emphasized the law&#8217;s core objectives. These include reducing food waste, promoting responsible practices within the supply chain and strengthening donation mechanisms. The goal is to benefit vulnerable populations across Panama.<\/p>\n<p>The public consultation included representatives from multiple government bodies. The Ministry of Health, Ministry of Social Development and Ministry of Agricultural Development all participated. The Ministry of Environment, Consumer Protection Authority and National Customs Authority also joined. The Aquatic Resources Authority of Panama attended alongside the Panama Food Bank. The Union of Industrialists of Panama sent representatives. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations participated as well.
