PANAMA CITY, Panama – The University of Panama has officially launched the SIREDES project, a comprehensive digital system designed to automate and streamline the issuance and management of academic diplomas. The initiative, presented by the Directorate of Information and Communication Technologies (DITIC), aims to significantly reduce administrative processing times and enhance service for the university community.
The project involved the development and implementation of several complementary systems to guarantee its optimal operation. Officials detailed that the new platform integrates services that were previously managed separately, creating a unified and automated process for students and administrators.
A Unified Digital Ecosystem for Academic Documents
During the presentation, the DITIC team demonstrated the applications linked to the diploma review and issuance process to the university’s highest authorities. The system includes tools for consultation and information generation that are expected to transform administrative workflows.
“We had to develop a system for the use of the electronic signature and another repository system, where all generated documents will be stored, which can be consulted from other platforms,” detailed José Aizprúa, Director of DITIC [Translated from Spanish].
The integration extends beyond diplomas to include other critical student documents. This consolidation eliminates the need for students to visit multiple offices in person, a previous requirement that often lengthened administrative procedures.
“We have managed to integrate other services such as the peace and safe document, the English exam, and social labor hours, which previously required the student’s presence in different offices. Now this entire process will be automated and managed from a unified local system,” added Director Aizprúa [Translated from Spanish].
Enhanced Accessibility and Official Validity for Students
A key benefit highlighted by university officials is the increased accessibility and convenience for students. The new system allows for greater flexibility in obtaining official documents, ensuring their continued validity.
Ricardo Parker, Secretary General of the University of Panama, emphasized the long-term advantages for the student body. He confirmed that the digital system maintains the integrity and official standing of all issued documents.
“With this innovation, students will be able to request their diploma as many times as they require, at the same cost and with full official validity,” stated Mgter. Ricardo Parker [Translated from Spanish].
The implementation of SIREDES marks a significant step in the University of Panama’s digital transformation journey. By moving critical academic services online, the institution aims to improve operational efficiency and provide a more responsive and modern experience for its students.
