Panama City officials approved a $3.3 million budget Wednesday for the 2026 edition of the Panama Christmas festival, an event expected to draw more than 1.5 million visitors and generate $15 million in economic activity across the capital district.
The announcement came October 7 from the Mayor’s Office, which outlined a program running from December 1, 2026 through January 7, 2027. Ricardo Araúz, director of municipal services, said the centerpiece parade will move from Calle 50 to the Cinta Costera on Saturday, December 12, with projected attendance of 500,000 people.

Panama Christmas Festival Expands Across Three Districts
Organizers will illuminate 35 public spaces spanning the Centro, Norte, and Este sectors. Of the total allocation, $533,000 covers mounting logistics, stages, and decorative lighting. The tree lighting ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, December 6 at Mirador del Pacífico, with simultaneous illumination of parks throughout the district.
The decentralized initiative “Calles que Brillan” runs from December 1 to 18 in various neighborhoods. Notable locations include Cinta Costera, Parque Urracá in Bella Vista, Parque Santa Ana, and Plaza Catedral in San Felipe for the central zone. Northern points feature Cinta Norteña in Ernesto Córdoba Campos plus parks in Alcalde Díaz and Las Cumbres. Eastern venues include Parque Heliodoro Patiño in Juan Díaz, Parque de las Madres in Pedregal, and Rotonda La Siesta in Tocumen.

Economic Impact and Attendance Projections
Mayor Mayer Mizrachi’s administration estimates the festival will inject $15 million into the local economy. The 1.5 million projected attendees represent a significant portion of the metropolitan population, stretching across five weeks of programming.
The budget reflects a strategic investment in seasonal tourism and local commerce. Municipal officials point to the multiplier effect of holiday spending on restaurants, transportation, and retail sectors concentrated near illuminated parks and event venues.

New Year and Three Kings Day Closings
The festival concludes at the waterfront with New Year’s Eve celebrations on December 31. Activities resume for the Fiesta de Reyes on January 6 and 7, 2027, closing the holiday cycle with traditional Three Kings Day events.
Organizers positioned the extended calendar as a way to sustain foot traffic beyond the December peak, keeping public spaces active into the first week of the new year. The shift to Cinta Costera for the main parade addresses capacity concerns from previous editions while capitalizing on the coastal boulevard‘s wider pedestrian corridors and ocean views.
