Panama’s National Border Service has deployed over 60 agents to its border with Costa Rica. The major security operation, called “Falange 6,” is a direct response to a spike in criminal activity reported by residents in the Bocas del Toro Province.
Authorities launched the initiative after receiving numerous complaints from communities like Las Tablas and Las Delicias. Residents there have expressed growing fear over increasing crime rates in recent weeks. The operation will focus on both residential and commercial sectors throughout the area.
Focus on Community Security and Checkpoint Vigilance
The senior National Border Service (Panama) officer in Guabito outlined the mission’s core objectives. He stated that ensuring peaceful coexistence in several key towns remains the top priority.
“Our principal mission is to guarantee peaceful coexistence in communities like Las Delicias, Las Tablas, La Mesa, Barranco Adentro, Guabito, and Finca 51,” the major said. [Translated from Spanish]
Officers are also strengthening checks at the Milla 21 control point. This heightened vigilance aims to minimize risks and prevent criminal incidents before they occur. The strategy seeks to fortify security all along the border cordon.
These operations are being coordinated with local justices of the peace. Officials confirmed the intensive activities will continue throughout the entire week. They form part of a broader, permanent security strategy for Panama’s sensitive border zone.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to maintaining order and tranquility for border inhabitants. The deployment underscores the ongoing challenges in remote border regions. It also highlights the government’s responsive measures to community safety concerns.
