The Municipality of Panama will inaugurate five newly themed public parks across the capital later this month. Officials confirmed the recreational spaces, featuring installations from dinosaurs to world capitals, will open to families after January 15 following the removal of traditional holiday decorations.
This initiative forms a core part of the city’s strategy to provide continuous, engaging public spaces beyond the festive season. The project is being coordinated with local community boards to ensure it meets neighborhood interests.
“We are going to have one with a universe theme featuring planet pieces, and another called Capitals of the World with replicas of great international statues like the Statue of Liberty, the Eiffel Tower, and others. We will also have a dinosaur space with robotic dinosaur replicas that we know children and families will love,” [Translated from Spanish] explained the Director of Community Services for the Mayor of Panama‘s office.
The goal is straightforward. Create accessible, photogenic destinations that encourage healthy recreation and community gathering. Each park will boast a unique theme with corresponding ambient decorations and planned activities.
Transforming Public Spaces for Family Fun
Specific locations and their assigned themes have been finalized. The Eduardo Vallarino, Betania, and Heliodoro Patiño parks in the Juan Díaz district will collectively become “Capitals of the World.”
Parque Norte in Chilibre transforms into “Jurassic Land.” Over in Don Bosco, Parque Villa Catalina will offer an undersea experience as “Marine World.” The final site, Parque Rotonda La Siesta in Tocumen, is designated as a “Gamer” paradise.
This project directly responds to a recognized need for more varied public amenities. It extends the utility and appeal of city parks beyond their basic functions, turning them into experiential destinations. The installations are designed to be interactive and educational, not just decorative.
A Lasting Legacy of Light and Activity
Keeping the parks illuminated after the December holidays is a key component. The decision ensures the spaces remain inviting and safe for evening visits, maximizing their usability for working families. The thematic installations will replace the recently removed Christmas decorations, providing a fresh visual appeal.
Local officials anticipate a strong public response. They predict thousands of residents from Panama City and surrounding areas will visit to take photographs and enjoy the novel environments. The themes were selected specifically for their broad, cross-generational appeal.
Final preparations are now underway across all five locations. Crews are installing the specialized lighting and thematic elements. Community boards are assisting with logistics and promoting the upcoming inaugurations within their neighborhoods.
This initiative represents a tangible investment in public joy and urban livability. It converts existing infrastructure into enhanced community assets without the need for entirely new construction. The city’s focus remains on creating shared memories in shared spaces.
