Copa Airlines has unveiled the official music video for “Sube la Marea Remix,” a song created to rally support for the Panama national football team ahead of its second FIFA World Cup appearance. The project brings together a historic lineup of Panamanian artists in a visual celebration of the country’s culture and landscapes.
Produced by the Panamanian duo Los Gaitanes, the remix features an unprecedented collaboration. Musical legends like Rubén Blades and Omar Alfanno join contemporary hitmakers Sech and Boza, alongside genre pioneers Nando Boom and Kafu Banton. This fusion aims to represent Panama’s diverse sound, from salsa and reggae to reggaeton and tipico.
A Musical Journey Across Panama’s Landscapes
The video itself functions as a vibrant tourism showcase. Directors filmed artists at iconic locations across the nation. Scenes feature the Panama Canal, the Rommel Fernández Stadium, and the Biomuseo. The production also traveled to capture the historic streets of Casco Antiguo and the natural beauty of Portobelo, Chitré, Guararé, and Bocas del Toro.
Marco Ocando, Marketing Director for Copa Airlines, explained the ambitious vision behind the project. He said the goal was to encapsulate the nation’s spirit through its music and people.
“Panama is feeling, Panama is a mix of races, cultures and music. Music is one of the important pillars, one of the most important in Panama, throughout its history. We have a lot of musical wealth, so we tried, although it seems crazy, to conglomerate a lot of that in a single video, and I think we have done interesting work.” [Translated from Spanish]
Ocando detailed the extensive effort involved. Over 100 people contributed to the production, which included 19 artists and multiple days of filming and editing. He described it as a labor of love and a gift for the public.
