Gasoline and diesel prices in Panama will fall starting Friday, December 12. The country’s energy authority confirmed the two-week price adjustment, which offers modest relief at the pump during the holiday season.
The new rates, set by the Panama Secretariat of Energy, will remain in effect until 5:59 a.m. on December 25. Officials cited fluctuations in the international oil market as the primary reason for the reduction.
Specific Price Adjustments for Consumers
Premium 95-octane gasoline will see a decrease of three cents per liter. Its new price will be 86 cents per liter. The lower 91-octane gasoline, a common choice for many vehicles, drops by four cents to 81 cents per liter. The Octane rating indicates a fuel’s resistance to engine knocking.
Diesel fuel will experience the most significant price cut. The cost of low-sulfur diesel will fall by six cents per liter, also settling at 81 cents. This type of Ultra-low-sulfur diesel is standard for modern transportation and industrial equipment.
“The Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Energy Secretariat continuously monitor international price variations to establish fair local prices,” an official statement read. [Translated from Spanish]
The announcement provides a clear cost schedule for drivers and businesses planning travel and logistics. These biweekly price revisions are a standard practice in Panama, directly tying local fuel costs to global market averages.
This price drop arrives just as holiday travel typically increases across the country. Even a slight reduction can lower operational costs for the transportation and goods distribution sectors. The next price update is scheduled for announcement on December 26.
