The Mi Pueblito tourist complex will host the Afro Panama Food festival for a second consecutive year. This event forms part of the broader Black Ethnicity Month (Panama) celebrations. Organizers announced the festival will take place on May 16 and 17.
Nearly 80 entrepreneurs from across Panama will participate in the two-day event. These vendors will offer traditional dishes passed down through generations. The festival aims to highlight the rich cultural and gastronomic heritage of the Afro-Panamanian community.
Franklyn Robinson serves as the event organizer. He emphasized the diversity of culinary offerings that attendees can expect. “We have entrepreneurs from Bocas del Toro, Colón, Darién, and other provinces,” Robinson said. “They will offer items like cod fritters, sweets, and many other gastronomic delights.” [Translated from Spanish]
Cultural Performances and Family Activities Planned

Verónica Arosemena is the Director of Culture for the Municipality. She provided details about the broader vision for the month. “It will be a very active month, celebrating our traditions and cultural expressions,” Arosemena stated. [Translated from Spanish]

Free Transportation Provided to Ease Access
Organizers have addressed potential logistical challenges. Parking capacity remains limited near the Mi Pueblito complex. Officials confirmed they will provide free transportation from Albrook to the venue.
This shuttle service aims to prevent traffic congestion. It also ensures easier access for all attendees. The free buses will run throughout the festival hours on both days.
The Afro Panama Food festival represents a growing recognition of Afro-Panamanian contributions. These contributions span cuisine, music, and community traditions. The event creates a space for cultural preservation and public celebration.
Previous years saw strong attendance from both local residents and international visitors. Organizers expect similar or higher turnout this year. The combination of food, music, and family activities appeals to a broad audience.
Traditional dishes will showcase regional variations. Bocas del Toro offers distinct Caribbean-influenced flavors. Colón brings its own coastal culinary traditions. Darién contributes ingredients and techniques from its unique ecosystem.
The festival runs from morning until evening on both days. Exact hours have not yet been announced. Organizers recommend arriving early to sample the full range of offerings.
This event stands as one of several activities planned for Black Ethnicity Month. Communities across Panama will host parades, educational programs, and cultural showcases throughout May. The month serves as a dedicated period for recognizing Afro-Panamanian heritage and its lasting impact on national identity.
