A preventive curfew took effect Thursday in Veracruz, bringing new Veracruz security measures that will remain in place through October 12, 2026. The restrictions, announced jointly by the Arraiján mayor’s office, the National Police, and the Veracruz communal board, set different schedules for minors and adults.
The measure responds to recent incidents in the area and aims to reduce risk during overnight hours. Authorities confirmed that essential workers and people with justified reasons to move during restricted periods will be exempt.
Veracruz Security Measures Set Different Weekend Hours
For minors, the curfew runs Sunday through Thursday from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. On Fridays and Saturdays, the restriction starts later, from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Adults face a shorter window during the week, with restrictions from 11:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. Monday through Thursday.
Weekend rules for adults shift to 10:00 p.m. through 4:00 a.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The staggered schedule reflects an effort to balance public safety with commercial activity in the corregimiento, which sits within the Arraiján district west of Panama City.

Exemptions and Enforcement During the 12-Day Restriction
The decree includes carve-outs for health personnel, security forces, emergency responders, and public utility workers. People traveling for work, education, public transportation, or force majeure can also move during curfew hours if they can justify their situation.
Officials urged residents, business owners, and visitors to comply with the rules and cooperate with security forces throughout the period. The National Police will oversee enforcement in coordination with local authorities.

Local Reaction and Temporary Scope of the Curfew
The preventive measure is temporary and limited to Veracruz, a coastal community known for its beaches and residential growth. No additional restrictions have been announced for neighboring corregimientos in Arraiján or La Chorrera.
Community leaders have supported the move as a necessary step following recent security concerns. The communal board participated directly in the decision, signaling a coordinated local response. Authorities have not specified what triggered the curfew beyond citing recent events in the sector.
The restriction expires automatically on October 12 unless officials extend it. Residents can expect updated guidance from the mayor’s office and police as the end date approaches.
