Several civic committees and associations from the Santeño community have indefinitely suspended their traditional November festivities, suspended as a direct response to the 9 October earthquake. The groups will instead organize a humanitarian caravan to deliver essential supplies to affected families in the Los Santos province.
The decision was confirmed on 19 October 2026 by the Comité Cívico y Cultural 10 de Noviembre de La Chorrera, which cancelled all events originally scheduled for 5, 7, 8, 9, and 10 November. The move reflects a broader shift from celebration to crisis response following the seismic event.

November Festivities Suspended Across Multiple Communities
The suspension covers the 204th anniversary commemorations of the First Cry of Independence, a cornerstone of Panamanian patriotic tradition. Supporting organizations include the Comité 10 de Noviembre de Nuevo Chorrillo, the Unión Santeña de Juan Díaz, the Comité 10 de Noviembre de Gatuncillo de Colón, the Asociación de Santeños de Capira, and the Asociación de Santeños de San Miguelito.
Organizers stated that civic duty and brotherhood must take precedence over traditional parades and folkloric events under current conditions. The groups emphasized shared historical and cultural roots with the people of Los Santos, who are navigating uncertainty and material losses.

Humanitarian Caravan and Community Response
Replacing the cancelled programming is an initiative titled “Un solo corazón, una sola tierra: Gran Caravana de la Solidaridad Santeña.” The caravan will depart on 10 November toward Los Santos province, carrying donations and direct support for those most in need.
The organizing committee issued a statement underscoring that traditions gain strength through demonstrated values, not through suspended parades. The collective effort channels resources toward families still assessing damage and securing basic necessities after the earthquake.

Regional Impact and Official Statements
The earthquake has prompted a reevaluation of public gatherings across affected regions. Civic associations in Panama City, Colón, and San Miguelito have coordinated logistics for donation collection points and transport routes leading into Los Santos.

Local organizers expect the caravan to draw participation from multiple provinces, uniting diaspora communities in a single relief effort. The suspension remains in effect for all November programming, with no rescheduled dates announced.
