The Panama City Mayor’s Office successfully held its annual Christmas parade on Sunday afternoon. The “City of Stars” event proceeded along the capital’s main Nicanor de Obarrio Avenue, commonly known as Calle 50, featuring festive floats and marching bands for thousands of spectators.
Heavy rain began falling just minutes after the parade’s 3:00 p.m. start. Participants and attendees faced a sudden downpour, but the event continued without interruption as organizers and city officials pushed forward with the planned schedule.
Parade Opens With Traditional Fanfare
The Colonel Segundo Villarreal Institute band from Villa de Los Santos had the honor of leading the procession. They were followed directly by the official float from the Panama City Mayor’s Office, designated “I Stars PTY.”
Mayor Mayer Mizrachi rode on that float, officially launching the holiday celebration. His presence signaled the start of a procession that included numerous themed floats and musical groups, all designed to celebrate the December festive season.
“We are happy to bring this celebration of light and joy to the heart of our city. The spirit of Panama is stronger than any rain,” said Mayor mayer mizrachi. [Translated from Spanish]
City officials confirmed the parade followed its full planned route. The Municipal Police (Panama) managed traffic and security along the avenue, ensuring a safe environment for all attendees despite the wet conditions.
Families Celebrate Holiday Spirit
Spectators lined the famous commercial avenue to watch the spectacle. Many families brought children who eagerly awaited the arrival of colorful floats and the sound of marching bands.
Photographs from the event show crowds using umbrellas and raincoats as they watched the procession. The images capture a determinedly festive atmosphere, with attendees smiling and cheering from the sidewalks under grey skies.
Event organizers expressed satisfaction with the public turnout. They noted the community’s commitment to maintaining holiday traditions, a sentiment visibly shared by the performers who marched through the rain.
The parade represents one of the major public holiday events organized by the municipal government each year. It serves as an official kickoff to the Christmas season within the capital, drawing residents from across the metro area.
Planning for the event involves multiple city departments and months of coordination. This year’s “City of Stars” theme aimed to create a unifying and bright spectacle for the community, an objective seemingly met despite the afternoon weather.
