A coordinated strike by Panamanian authorities Wednesday resulted in the arrest of 10 individuals and the disruption of a criminal structure dismantled in the 24 de Diciembre township of East Panama. The operation, targeting a group known as “Los Iluminatis,” unfolded in the Sector 5 area, specifically within a zone locals call “La Favela” or “La Invasión.”
The National Police and the Public Ministry executed the anti-gang initiative, code-named Operation Elite, following months of intelligence gathering that began in 2025. Among those detained was a man identified by the alias “Andrecito,” who authorities believe served as the group’s leader.
Criminal Structure Dismantled in East Panama Raids
The raids involved specialized units including the Search Block, Intelligence, Canine Unit, and the Judicial Investigation Directorate (DIJ). Their coordinated entry into the neighborhood marked a significant escalation in efforts to curb gang activity in Panama East.
Investigators allege that Los Iluminatis maintained an alliance with another criminal faction known as “Los HP” or “Manzana Cero.” This partnership reportedly facilitated a range of illegal operations across the region. The group faces accusations linked to homicide, personal injuries, armed robbery, illegal firearm possession, and drug trafficking.
Drug Seizures and Evidence Collection
Law enforcement officials stated that narcotics trafficking represented a primary source of income for the organization. During investigative phases conducted in February, March, and August, authorities seized over one ton of illicit substances. These drugs were allegedly hidden and guarded in various residences throughout East Panama.
Beyond the narcotics, Wednesday’s operation yielded cash, technological equipment, and other evidence now slated for forensic analysis. The Public Ministry confirmed that all 10 detainees will appear before a Guarantees Court in the coming hours for a hearing to determine their legal status.
Legal Proceedings and Investigative Origins
The First Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Crimes of Illicit Association is leading the legal push against the group, with direct support from the National Police. The investigation’s roots trace back to 2025, when authorities first began identifying the structure and scope of the organization operating in this sector.
Operation Elite represents one of the more substantial enforcement actions in the area in recent months. The seizure of more than a ton of drugs during the preliminary investigation underscores the scale of the alleged network. Officials have not ruled out additional arrests as the analysis of seized evidence continues.
