PANAMA CITY, Panama – The Institute of Agricultural Marketing (IMA) is expanding its network of affordable food markets, known as “agroferias,” across multiple provinces this Friday. The initiative aims to provide Panamanian families with direct access to staple foods at below-market prices as part of the government’s ongoing food security strategy.

The agroferias will operate simultaneously in nine locations spanning eight provinces, including Herrera, Veraguas, Chiriquí, Coclé, Panama Oeste, Panama Este, Los Santos, and the capital district. All markets will open at 8:00 a.m., offering a comprehensive selection of essential items from the basic food basket.

This Friday’s agroferias will be strategically distributed across Panama to serve both urban and rural communities. In Herrera, the market will operate at Union Park in Chitré. Veraguas residents can visit the Omar Torrijos Stadium in Santiago district.
Chiriquí province features two locations: the communal field of San Andrés in Bugaba district and the Las Tumbas Roping Track in Bongo. Coclé’s market will be held at the local house of Churuquita Chiquita in Victoriano Lorenzo, Penonomé district.
Panama Oeste’s location is at Altos de El Tecla Park in Vacamonte, while Panama Este’s market will be at the Chepillo Community House on Chepillo Island. Los Santos residents can access the San José field in Las Tablas district, and Panama City shoppers can visit the AMPYME parking lot on Vía Israel in Bella Vista.
The nationwide deployment of these affordable food markets demonstrates the IMA’s commitment to addressing food security concerns across all regions of Panama. These regular events have become crucial for many families seeking relief from persistent food price inflation affecting global markets.
