Virginia Martinez, the Roadway Manager for the CLPN Consortium, confirmed the work is on track for delivery by the end of April. This infrastructure upgrade is a key component of the larger Fourth Bridge over the Canal project, which recently passed the 27 percent completion mark.
The current work focuses on finishing tasks like cleaning, joint sealing, and preparing for new road markings. Installation of landscaping and greenery is also underway. These final steps will convert the construction zone into a fully operational roadway, directly linking to the broader Transistmica Highway network. Martinez highlighted the rapid progress made in recent months.
“We are in the final process of a roadway project to proceed in the first days of April, after Holy Week. For April 2026 we would already be delivering the complete roadway work. Five months ago when we were here, this entire part was disabled; now it is a fully usable road,” Martinez stated. [Translated from Spanish]
A partial detour at the main entrance to villa zaita remains in effect but is temporary. Officials explained this closure is necessary to relocate a pedestrian overpass staircase, a move that will provide additional width for the new traffic lanes. The adjustment is critical for final alignment and safety.

Martinez addressed ongoing traffic congestion in the area, noting that current delays are not caused by residual work from her consortium. She attributed the traffic to the high volume of vehicles typically using this corridor into Panama City. The newly expanded road is expected to significantly alleviate this bottleneck once opened. The detour is scheduled to be removed by April 20 at the latest.
This roadway expansion is more than just a local improvement. It serves as a vital feeder route connecting the urban area to the monumental Fourth Bridge construction site.
