The king also recognized Panama’s role as a facilitator of international commerce. Spain stands ready to continue backing Panama’s development efforts, the monarch confirmed.
Panama’s Economic Growth Plans
President Mulino explained his administration’s efforts to stabilize public finances during the meeting. These measures aim to strengthen economic growth across the country.
The Panamanian leader projected national economic growth between 4 and 5 percent this year. That performance would place Panama among the top economic performers in Latin America.
Tourism sector growth received special attention during the bilateral discussion. Mulino highlighted the passenger traffic increase at Tocumen International Airport.
The president noted that Tocumen has surpassed Mexico in passenger management. This achievement will enable airport terminal expansion and strengthen operations for Copa Airlines.
Copa Airlines plans to purchase 69 new aircraft, Mulino confirmed. The airline’s growth reflects Panama’s expanding role as a regional aviation hub.

Strengthening Regional Ties
Earlier in the day, Mulino received honors upon arrival in Costa Rica. He emphasized the importance of maintaining strong relations between Panama and its neighbor.
“I am very happy to participate in this democratic change of command in Costa Rica, with our neighbors and dear friends. We aim to strengthen and continue working united as good neighbors in all progress, not only for our peoples but for our border zone and all commercial development,” the Panamanian president said.
